Third Street Park
Third Street Park is located on SW Third Street and was formerly the site of the South Prairie School. It is not only known for its historical significance, but it has a quarter-mile paved trail, baseball field, basketball court and playground equipment. The park is ADA accessible, with ADA parking, restroom and trail. The Town of South Prairie is very fortunate that Anthony Keiper, Boy Scout Troop 577, volunteered to make improvements to the Third Street Park for his Eagle Scout Project. The improvements included replacing backstop fencing, re-painting lines on the basketball court and installing benches along the trail, baseball field and basketball court.

Veterans Park
The park located next to the South Prairie Community Center/Fire Station was renamed from Melrose Park to Veterans Park in 2004. A beautiful Veterans Memorial was built in 2004 and the Dedication Ceremony took place on Veterans Day 2004. Kris Atherton, a local veteran wounded in Iraq, was the inspiration for completing the Veterans Memorial. The South Prairie Cares Committee organized work parties, fund raising events and obtained donations from a vast number of citizens and businesses in our community. Many citizens consider Veterans Park as the “Jewel of the Community,” because of the community efforts it took to complete this project, which included the Veterans Memorial, building a pavilion, installing the log sign, refurbishing the flag pole, installation of memorial bricks, building sidewalks, installing a sprinkle system, and the beautiful landscaping. The river park attracts many visitors to its shady banks during the summer and to watch the salmon run in the fall. The Town of South Prairie is very pleased that Doug Plewnarz, Boy Scout Troop 577, chose to volunteer his time and energy to make improvements to the park for his Eagle Scout Project, which included installing picnic tables, benches and playground equipment. Veterans Park is conveniently located adjacent to the Foothills Trail and the South Prairie Trail Head.

Foothills Trail
The community is very fortunate to have the Foothills Trail running through the town. The trail is currently connected to the City of Orting and there are future plans to connect the Foothills Trail to Buckley and Wilkeson.

Citizens are encouraged to visit and enjoy the Third Street Park, Veterans Park and the Foothills Trail.
