NO. 442
AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF SOUTH
PRAIRIE, PIERCE COUNTY, WASHINGTON ACCEPTING A $4,000 GRANT FROM PIERCE COUNTY
TO SUBSIDIZE UTILITY PAYMENTS, AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION OF THE GRANT,
EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS TO THE UTILITY AS A CREDIT AGAINST SPECIFIC CUSTOMER
ACCOUNTS UNDER CERTAIN GRANT CONDITIONS.
Whereas, a $4,000 grant has been received from Pierce County
for the purposes of providing assistance to
low income families for the payment of utilities up to a maximum of $400 per
utility customer, and
Whereas, the
income guidelines and other criterion are set forth and attached as Exhibit "I", and
Whereas,
upon a customer
being qualified for grant funds the amount of the grant, applicable to the
customer, shall be paid to the appropriate utility to reduce the amount owed by
the customer up to the maximum allowable amount of the grant, $400 per
customer, and
Whereas,
this ordinance
is to authorize the receipt of the grant and the expenditure of grant funds,
and
Whereas, this ordinance is for the benefit of the health,
safety and welfare of the citizens.
Now,
therefore, the Town Council of the Town of South Prairie, Pierce County,
Washington do ordain as follows:
Section
1: To authorize the receipt of a
$4,000 grant from Pierce County for the payment of utilities and the
expenditure of such grant amount as set forth below.
Section 2: The grant funds may be expended
to customers who qualify as set forth on Exhibit 1 attached hereto and
incorporated by reference up to a maximum of $400 per customer.
Section 3: Grant funds expended on behalf of
a qualified customer shall be paid to the appropriate utility fund and be
applied as a credit on a customer's billing statement.
Section 4: That the application of this
ordinance is for the amount of the grant of $4,000 and upon the expenditure of
$4,000 this ordinance shall no longer take effect.
Section 5: If any provision of this
ordinance is determined to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the
remaining provisions shall remain in force and affect.
Section 3: This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force five (5) days from and
after its passage, approval and publication as required by law.
