ORDINANCE NO. 251
AN ORDINANCE IN THE TOWN OF SOUTH PRAIRIE, PIERCE
COUNTY, WASHINGTON, REDUCING THE MAXIMUM
SPEED ON HIGHWAY 162 FROM MILE MARKER
POST NUMBER 17.5 TO 17.72 TO 30 M.P.H. AND FROM MILE MARKER POST NUMBER
17.72 TO 17.78 SOUTHBOUND TO 50 M.P.H.
Whereas, the Revised Code of Washington
(RCW) Title 46.61.415 authorizes
the Secretary of Transportation to reduce the maximum speed on the state highways within incorporated towns after a traffic and engineering investigation determines
that the current limit is greater than is reasonable or safe; and
Whereas, the State Department of
Transportation has conducted such an investigation and
has determined that a speed limit of 30 m.p.h. from mile marker post number 17.5 to 17.72 and speed of 50 m.p.h. from mile marker
post number 17.72 to 17.78 southbound on state highway 162 within the Town of South
Prairie; and
Whereas, the Town Council finds that
reducing the speed limit
on highway 162 in accordance with the
traffic and engineering study is in the best interest of
protecting the public health, safety and welfare; and
Whereas, the Washington State Secretary
of Transportation has
approved the reduction of said speed limit,
a copy of the approval letter being attached hereto as Exhibit
"A".
Now, therefore, the
Town Council of the Town of South Prairie, Pierce County, Washington do ordain as follows:
Section 1: The
speed limit on highway
162 shall be and is hereby reduced to 30 m.p.h. from mile marker post number 17.5 to 17.72 and
reduced to 50 m.p.h. from mile marker
post number 17.72 to 17.78 southbound.
Section 2: This
ordinance shall be in full force and affect five (5) days from and after its
passage, approval and publication as required by law.
