ORDINANCE NO. 284
AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF SOUTH PRAIRIE, PIERCE COUNTY,
WASHINGTON ENACTING THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE EXCISE TAX RATE, COLLECTED BY PIERCE COUNTY, PAYABLE TO THE
TOWN OF SOUTH PRAIRIE.
Whereas, in recent years the state
legislature has authorized cities and towns to impose
an additional percentage on real estate excise tax to be collected by the county and payable to the town.
The Town of South Prairie has not previously taken advantage of the funds that have been authorized to be collected and paid to it
through real estate excise tax, and
Whereas, the town, due to financial
necessity, desires that
the maximum amount of real estate excise tax
be collected by the county and paid
to the town, which includes two different authorizations for collection of one quarter of one percent for a
total of one half of one percent additional
excise taxes to be collected by the
county and payable to the town for real estate transactions involving real estate located within the town, and
Whereas, the collection of these funds,
as authorized by state
law, will benefit the public health, safety
and welfare of the town.
Now, therefore, the Town Council of the Town of South Prairie, Pierce County, Washington do
ordain as follows:
Section 1: In
accordance with state law, the town hereby authorizes
Pierce County to collect the maximum allowable real
estate
excise tax including the state authorized town share and pay the said amount to the
town.
Section 2: If any
provision of this ordinance, or the state provisions referred to by this ordinance are
invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the
remaining provisions shall remain in full force and affect.
Section
3: This ordinance shall take affect and be in
force five (5) days from and after its passage, approval
and publication as required by law.
