ORDINANCE NO.168
TOWN OF
SOUTH PRAIRIE, WASHINGTON
AN ORDINANCE providing for a
special election authorizing an excess levy each year for a
period of six (6) consecutive years to
provide emergency medical care and emergency medical services.
WHEREAS, the Town Council did
have approved by the electors in 1979 a regular tax in an amount equal to 25 or less per $1,000.00 of assessed value of property to augment
the cost of emergency medical
services for a six (6) year period, 1980 through 1985; and
WHEREAS, in the judgment of the
Town Council it is essential and necessary for the
protection of the health and life of residents of the town that first aid protection services and medical
care services be provided, now, therefore,
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF SOUTH PRAIRIE, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. In order to provide
the revenue to pay the
costs of providing emergency medical
care and emergency medical services and
to maintain reserve funds sufficient to assure the continuation of such services, the town shall levy each
year for a period of six (6)
consecutive years beginning in 1985 and collect each year for a period
of six (6) consecutive years, beginning in 1986, a general tax on taxable
property within the town, in addition to the
regular levy for maintenance and operation costs, an amount not to exceed 25 per $1,000.00 of
assessed valuation of such property.
Section 2. In accordance with
Chapter 200 of the Laws of 1979, First Estraordinary
Session, the funds raised by such levy shall
be used only for the provision of emergency medical care and emergency medical services, including related
personnel
costs, training for such personnel, and related equipment, supplies, vehicles and structures
needed for the provision of emergency medical care and emergency medical
services.
Section 3. There shall be
submitted to the qualified electors of the town for
their ratification or rejection at the general election on November 5,
1985, in conjunction with the state general election to be held on the same
date, a question of whether or not such levy
for emergency medical care and emergency medical services, in addition to the regular levy for maintenance
and operation, shall be made each year for a
period of six (6) consecutive years, the first levy to be made in 1985
and to be
collected
in 1986. The Town Council hereby requests the Auditor of Pierce County, as
ex-officio supervisor of elections, to submit
the following proposition at such general election, in the form of a
ballot entitled substantially as follows:

Section 4. This ordinance shall become effective five (5) days from and after its passage, approval and publication as
required by law.
Passed by the Town Council and approved by the Mayor of
the Town of South Prairie, Washington, at a regular
meeting thereof this 3rd day of
September, 1985.
